Luxury Mobile Tented Safaris

Secretly hidden from the hustle and bustle of people, their vehicles and all other style of lodge formality, our luxury mobile camping safaris are now a way of life.
Having visited most wilderness areas in East Africa, we consider the perfect safari to be ‘out there’, among the wildlife. Naturally, this experience is not for everyone, though we strongly believe everyone should try it at least once in their life. There is nothing to compare with the joys of listening to an uninterrupted cacophony of beetles, crickets and birds or of watching hyena, elephant or wildebeest from the privacy of one’s own tent. It is all about appreciating nature, its romance and the excitement that unfolds before you. This is what makes a tented safari an unforgettable experience, although we do recommend a few nights in a lodge to acclimatise beforehand.

Ranger Safaris

With our deep roots in Tanzania, we have developed excellent relationships with park authorities in places like Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara and Tarangire and in the less visited areas like Mount Meru, Lake Natron and Lake Eyasi. As a result, we have access to some of the most picturesque private camp sites available. This means that camping among the migrating wildebeest or close to unique tribal communities is very possible, if planned in advance.

The Best Team

The team is an essential part of the experience and is highly-skilled to ensure every element of the stay is taken care of. Each camp includes a full complement of staff, from ground crew who build and dismantle camp, to waiters and chefs, who ensure it is run efficiently, that meals are delicious, drinks always cold and bush showers piping-hot. After every safari, guests ask us how, in the middle of the bush, such tasty meals are prepared… well, that is the chef’s secret!

The Stylish Camp

The secret to a great camping safari is the location. Before guests arrive, our crew build the private camp to suit the group, be this on the edge of a vlei, forest or river. The site will include guest tents, a dining tent and an area for the crew. When guests depart, the crew dismantle everything and leave the area as if no one had been there. Small pop-up tents, bedrolls and heated baked beans do not feature on our safaris! Instead they are noted for their comfort, style, romantic ambience and gourmet cuisine.

Luxury Mobile Tents

Creating the most comfortable environment away from a luxury lodge, our tents are made from heavy-duty canvas, have ample space to walk around in, are bug-proof and waterproof and are safe from all wildlife. One great feature is that all window and door covers can be rolled up to reveal massive gauze openings that enhance the views. The beds are solid and extremely comfortable, with a thick mattress, sheets, blankets and pillows. To the rear of each tent, is an en-suite bathroom, which includes a hot-water shower and a comfortable ‘bush’ toilet. To the front is a large covered verandah area with table and chairs.

Guide, Vehicle and Activities

Camping guides are carefully selected from our most senior guides. Along with their wide knowledge of wildlife, flora and fauna, they also bring a unique perspective of life in Africa and in the bush. In fact, guests often tell us their most favourite part of a camping safari was spending time around the fire listening to the stories and adventures of their guide. Travel is by specially adapted 4x4 vehicles, with maximum comfort and large roof-hatches for game-viewing. Activities are dependent on local conditions and game movements. Whether this means travelling a mile from camp to a lion kill, or spending a whole day away with a picnic lunch, in search of a rare bird, the days are as flexible as guests require them to be. Mornings may focus on tracking a nocturnal visitor to camp, while the late afternoon may be spent bird-watching, perhaps with a midday siesta in the shade of a tree.
